Union Berlin are not playing ball over Chelsea’s plans to bring David Datro Fofana back to the club and send him to Sevilla.
That’s according to Diario de Sevilla, who have a line on the player today and how Union manager Nenad Bjelica ‘opposes the intention’ of the two sides.
Fofana has been on loan with the Bundesliga club since the summer, joining them from Chelsea in the hope of getting regular playing time in a top five league to help further his development.
Things have not worked out that way, though, as he’s spent much of the season sat on the bench and managed just one goal in 12 Bundesliga appearances to date.
A report yesterday indicated progress was being made on that front and Sevilla were well placed to complete the deal, but it seems that may not be the case.
Diario de Sevilla now report that Bjelica ‘opposes the intention’ of both Chelsea and Sevilla to break the striker’s loan in Germany and send him to Spain.
He would prefer for Fofana to remain part of his squad and he, alongside his club, are ‘trying to convince him’ to stay in Germany instead of moving elsewhere.
That means his incorporation for Sevilla ‘does not look as certain’ as it once did, with director of football Victor Orta even looking at other options to bolster his forward line.
It’s another knot to be untangled for Chelsea, whose transfer business never seems to be anything but complicated these days.
