Following some claims that Manchester United were trying to sort out some sort of swap between Jadon Sancho and Donyell Malen with Borussia Dortmund, we have news of another Bundesliga side keen on the forward.
That’s RB Leipzig, according to Bild in Germany, who have an article about the club’s January plans after Emil Forsberg sets off to the MLS with New York Red Bulls.
They are searching for a replacement, but are also looking at the Manchester United forward, who has been ignored by Erik ten Hag for most of the season following a falling out between player and manager.
First, there is the fact Manchester United want a sale, and ‘probably want €60m’ for the former Bundesliga star, whereas the ‘maximum possible’ from Leipzig’s end would be a ‘loan with an option to buy’.
Then there’s Sancho’s wages, which he is said to be ‘unwilling to compromise on’, as he earns around €20m/year in England.
Compare that to Timo Werner’s €10m/year, and that gives you an idea of how big of a difference there is between what they can afford and his demands.
Therefore, it’s a big uphill battle for the Bundesliga club, who might need to try and convince Manchester United like Eintracht Frankfurt did for Donny van de Beek.
