André Ayew could return to Ligue 1 as he eyes his first club post Nottingham Forest and the chance to get fit ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say the forward is in ‘advanced negotiations’ over a move to France after being without club since leaving Nottingham Forest in the summer.

He had been with Steve Cooper’s side since February this year after arriving on a free transfer following a two-year spell with Al-Sadd in Qatar.

Ayew managed 13 games and ‘proved through his performances’ that he had not lost any of his talent, but it was not enough to convince Nottingham Forest into a long-term commitment.

He’s since had offers from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and MLS, but not found an agreement with anyone, as well as being passed over by Marseille.

It seems they weren’t the only side interested in Ligue 1, though, and Foot Mercato report he is now in advanced negotiations that could even reach a positive conclusion this weekend.

The player is hoping to wrap up a deal quickly so he can get back to his best and performing ahead of the African Cup of Nations, which would be his last challenge at the international level.
