In a very strange turn of events, Atlético Madrid ‘fired’ a former Leeds United staff member a week after hiring him, with no real explanation given.
This is what Relevo in Spain are reporting, where they explain that Daniel Salas, who was seen as Victor Orta’s ‘right-hand man’ at Elland Road during the Spaniard’s time there, let the scout go in a ‘strange situation’.
They recall that, back in October, ABC Sevilla published an article announcing the arrival of Salas at Atlético Madrid, with the headline pointing out his previous work at Leeds.
They hint that this was ‘based on the hypothetical basis’ that Salas was the one who was responsible for the information in the article being published.
The Spanish outlet claim they have tried to speak to both the former Leeds man and Atlético Madrid about the situation, but neither are willing to speak on the matter.
Prior to his (very brief) stint with Diego Simeone’s team and his work at Elland Road, Salas had worked for the likes of Villarreal, Juventus and Lille, as well as Sporting Clube de Portugal and Sevilla.
