Earlier today, we covered quotes from Bruno Fernandes’ interview with ESPN Argentina, where the Manchester United star gave a lot of praise towards his teammate Lisandro Martinez.
It’s safe to say that most of his conversation with the South American outlet was about Argentine players, because we now see the midfielder speaking of Alejandro Garnacho as well.
Bruno Fernandes was asked by ESPN about the Manchester United youngster and had quite a lot of interesting things to say about his development with the Red Devils, claiming the 18-year-old gets much advice from him.
“We could see the quality he had when he played with the youngsters. He’s a player who has appeared this year, he’s scored important goals, he has that little star of a champion, but he still lacks to be a superstar. Both for Argentina and Portugal, superstars are Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, so he still has a lot of work to do, but he sure has something special, that appears in difficult moments, that not everyone can do it.
“But I think that if Garnacho continues to keep his head in place and do things well, he can have a very important future and I think the club has shown it to him, giving him a new contract, that means they believe a lot in him, as us the players, and we expect a lot from him.
“That’s why we talk to him a lot in the matches. I told him: ‘the day I stop talking to you it’s because I stopped believing that you can do more for us. So, keep making me talk to you and if the others ask you to do more, it’s because we believe you can do more’.”
Alejandro Garnacho is having his first season in Manchester United’s first team, with six goals and six assists in 32 appearances for the Red Devils so far.
The youngster got injured in the most important part of the season, but recently recovered and even scored a goal in his comeback game with a few minutes against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.
Argentina wanted Garnacho to be at the U-20 World Cup, and the local media claimed even the player himself asked Erik ten Hag to let him take part in the tournament. However, with qualification to the Champions League and the FA Cup final on the line, the manager decided against it.
