Tottenham’s pre-agreed deal to sign Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent basis from Juventus could be called off as ‘much will depend’ on their next manager.
That’s according to Goal Italia, who say there is no guarantee the Swedish star will be signed permanently by Tottenham despite there being an agreement for them to do so.
They explain that, with Champions League football slipping away, Spurs have a decision to make about Kulusevski as his initial loan deal is coming to an end.
He moved to England in January last year on a loan plus redemption agreement, with Juventus initially getting €10m from the operation. That is €3m for the 2021/22 season and €7m for the current one.
In addition, the agreement stipulates that Tottenham have an obligation to acquire Kulusevski should he feature in 50% of the games and play at least 60 minutes in them.
Such a deal is also heavily dependent on Spurs making it into the Champions League, which is looking increasingly unlikely as the weeks go by. Failure to do so would decrease Tottenham’s power to spend.
One solution is that they agree to pay the €35m clause over five years, something which GOAL is a hypothesis not to be discarded, especially considering how much Kulusevski wants to stay in London.
‘Much will depend’ on their new manager and if he wants the winger, or believes the club would be better served spending their money elsewhere.
