Manchester City may have been handed a boost ahead of the summer transfer window as RB Leipzig may have to accept less than €100m for defender Josko Gvardiol.
That’s according to SportBILD, relayed by Fussball Transfers, who say the centre-back Is ‘pushing for a transfer’ at the end of the season.
Gvardiol has established himself as one of the up-and-coming stars of the future with his performances for Leipzig since signing for them from Dinamo Zagreb in July 2021.
He added to his growing reputation with his performances for Croatia at the World Cup in Qatar, with even a small humiliation at the hands of Lionel Messi not enough to raise doubts.
Manchester City are believed to be one of the clubs interested in him, with FT even going as far as to say that he is one of their ‘desired players’ for the summer.
They cover Sport Bild’s report on him today, which says Manchester City may have been handed a major boost if they decide to pursue the centre-back seriously.
According to their information, the Saxons ‘will be forced’ to negotiate for the player this summer, even with offers ‘below’ the €100m they had targeted.
That’s because Gvardiol is ‘pushing’ for a transfer to happen, while there is an ‘economic necessity’ for the club to bring in funds from sale. Gvardiol is the big saleable asset in that regard.
That, of course, does not mean a deal is close or even being worked on at this point, but if Manchester City are as keen as it’s believe they are, then their chances have received a major shot in the arm.
