Yaya Touré has shared his delight at how his move into coaching is developing as he works his way up at Tottenham.
The midfielder has been speaking to Marca in Spain about his career and the move into coaching now that his playing days are over.
The Ivorian enjoyed a varied career at the top of the game for many years, featuring for the likes of Monaco, Barcelona, Manchester City and Olympiakos before a move to China with QD Huanghai later in his career.
He retired in January 2020 and has since moved into coaching, first taking up the assistant manager’s job at Olimpik Donetsk.
He was there between February 2021 to May 2021 before moving to Akhmat Grozny, where he remained as assistant manager from June 2021 to December 2021.
That’s something he is enjoying and admits it is in his plans to step into the managerial game in future.
“It’s very good. It’s different to when I was at Barça, but now it’s a new career and I love it,” he said.
“I’m progressing little by little. I work in the Tottenham youth academy. I am happy to be here. The people around me help me a lot, I have the desire to become a great coach!
“I think I have a different profile. I love the Spanish game, its philosophy, but also the intensity of English football. To be able to manage and merge both is for me the perfect thing.
“I’ve been lucky enough to compete in both countries and my idea is to try to mix the two styles. The challenge is to have intensity and speed while having good ball handling.
“(Tottenham is going) very well, to be honest. Since I left Spain I went to England. First I was in Manchester with City and then in London. I love the country and I’ve always felt very comfortable, even working here now. It’s been a nice adventure.”
