It appears that Zack Steffen will be leaving Manchester City in the summer, according to the player himself.

The goalkeeper had a chat with the Philadelphia Inquirer on Thursday while on international duty with the United States national team, and the 27-year-old feels time has come to try his luck elsewhere.

The Manchester City man is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, but with no option to buy in the deal, he is expected to return to the Etihad.

He has a contract there until 2025, but he won’t be staying until then, clearly a bit frustrated at having to either be a backup or heading out on loan.

The article makes it clear that this decision ‘won’t be news’ to Manchester City, who already know all about Steffen’s decision.

He then said: “I don’t think I’ll go back. No, I want to be playing, although I had a great time at City, and I love those guys. Obviously [it’s] an amazing club. I don’t really have any plans to go back.”

Joining from Columbus Crew in a near €7m deal back in 2019, the goalkeeper made 21 appearances for Manchester City during his time there, conceding 16 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

He has enjoyed a decent season with Middlesbrough this time around, conceding 41 goals in 35 appearances, keeping nine clean sheets.
