Now that Alexander Isak is back with the Sweden national team, the media there are very interested about his choice to move to Newcastle United.

Not because he moved to the Premier League, but they want to know about his views regarding the owners behind PIF.

He had yet to speak to his home country’s media since his transfer, but has finally done so for the first time this week, with Fotbollskanalen taking the chance to have a chat with the Newcastle star.

The first question of the interview was about his decision to swap Real Sociedad for St James’ Park, where he has taken time to adapt but is finally starting to show his true ability.

He immediately swiped away any chance of them asking him about the money aspect of things by saying: “The basis for me when I went to Newcastle was the sporting aspect. That’s what I value most when choosing a club. That was the most important thing for me. Then how situations look in different countries is not for me to answer.”

The next question about the trip to Saudi Arabia the Newcastle squad had, putting to him whether he and the club have become a ‘tool for the country’.

Isak was very honest, and said: “The experience I’ve had hasn’t been bad, but I’m not knowledgeable enough to give a detailed answer. We are owned by a Saudi fund, and therefore it’s not very strange that we can go there for training camps.”

Perhaps aware that they were pushing the wrong questions, the outlet then asked him if ‘there are too many demands placed on players when it comes to this type of subject’.

The Newcastle striker replied: “In some ways. At the same time, I can understand that the questions are being asked, but I also think there should be an understanding that when you make a career choice, ’tis mainly what’s best for your career. I was very happy with this choice I made. I still am.”
