Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed he felt paralysed after a clash with club teammate Jan Vertonghen earlier in the season. The Belgian international has missed a chunk of this campaign following the injury he picked up against West Bromwich Albion in October.
“Wait, I’ll explain it briefly. Among the knee you’ve got a nerve that extends all the way down to your feet. After the contact with Jan it was wedged. It felt like I was paralysed, I could not even move my toes. Specialists asked me not to worry, and indeed I got feeling back into the toes. I thought, it’s okay. But I still could not walk after three days. Then it began to worry me,” said the Tottenham star.
Alderweireld and Vertonghen have become one of the best central defensive partnerships in the Premier League, helped by the fact the two Belgians have are teammates for their country. However, the pair haven’t been the ever present rock for Tottenham so far this season due to injuries.
No sooner had Alderweireld returned from his foot problem Vertonghen sustained an ankle injury, which ruled him out for several weeks.
