Facundo Pellistri is ‘determined’ to leave Manchester United on a permanent basis in January, but his hopes depend on his performances at the World Cup.
That’s according to AS, who say the player’s fate ‘will depend’ on how he performs for Uruguay at the tournament in Qatar.
The newspaper reports that Pellistri could have his ‘days numbered’ at Manchester United, having grown frustrated with a lack of playing time at Old Trafford.
He returned from a loan spell with Alaves in the summer, having spent the last 18 months with the Spanish side after originally joining them in January 2021.
The 20-year-old is yet to feature under Erik ten Hag and is now ‘looking for a permanent exit’ from the club to turn his fortunes around.
His current contract with Manchester United runs until 2025 and a salary of €1m a year means he would be easy to sign on loan for lots of clubs, but the youngster ‘does not contemplate that option’.
Neither do Manchester United, who are hoping that Pellistri can be ‘revalued’ at the World Cup, thus allowing them to ‘make some cash’ on him.
They paid €8.5m for him in 2020 and will likely want to recoup as much of that as possible.
In the meantime, Pellistri is continuing to train under Ten Hag but it is a ‘delicate situation’ as he wanted to be playing ahead of the World Cup, where he could be a regular for Uruguay during the tournament.
Instead, he now needs to use the World Cup as a showcase for his talents to try and secure himself the move away from Old Trafford that it’s insisted he wants.
