Manchester City have become ‘too good’ and that has made them ‘boring to watch’ like Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona side.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad journalist Gert Verheyen, who believes City will be just as culpable as Atlético Madrid if their clash is another dull affair this evening.
Manchester City take on the Spanish side at the Wanda Metropolitano in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash after a 1-0 win at the Etihad last week.
The first-leg proved to be a tight affair, to say the least, with Kevin de Bruyne’s solitary goal the only difference between the two sides.
That was largely down to Diego Simeone’s tactical approach to the game, with the Argentine setting his side up in a deep block and limiting space as much as possible.
It led to a dull watch for fans and observers alike, with Manchester City dominating possession but unable to take advantage of it beyond De Bruyne’s goal.
“The entertainment value of City-Atlético was zero. But for me, Man City was as guilty of that as Atlético,” he told Het Niuewsblad.
“Actually, Manchester City has become too good at what they do. The opponent is barely competing anymore.
“And if there’s one thing you don’t like about soccer, it’s having to watch a totally unequal match. It’s like Barcelona under Guardiola.
“With City we’ve reached the point that it’s boring to watch. Only you’re not allowed to say that. That’s sacrilege.”
