Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez is the kind of player who, despite not being strongly chased by specific Premier League sides, is often linked to one or two English clubs.
Last month, a couple of stories claimed Arsenal were interested in signing the striker, especially following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona.
Now, as Tuttosport features an update on Martinez’s situation, they point out that the player is actually closer to staying at Inter Milan.
It’s said that despite Arsenal’s wish of signing him this summer, this chance ‘slips away’, as his desire to continue playing for the Nerazzurri is stronger than moving to the Gunners.
Martinez, who joined Inter Milan on a move from Argentine side Racing in 2018, is having another good season with 16 goals and two assists so far.
He’s the main player who the Nerazzurri want to protect in the summer, and with him willing to stay, that certainly gives the Serie A side a bigger security for the transfer window.
As for Arsenal in all this, Mikel Arteta and his staff might be better off trying to bring the likes of Jonathan David to the Emirates, which make for far more realistic targets than the Argentine at this moment in time.
