Niklas Süle is in his final year of contract at Bayern Munich and has emerged as a transfer for Newcastle United.
The defender’s agent insisted earlier this month that he has not held talks with the Magpies, but his client’s future remains open.
Four days ago, Kicker reported the talks between the 26-year-old and the Bavarian club over a new deal are ‘stalling’ and his representatives have offered him to Eddie Howe’s side.
A day later, Sky Deutschland explained the Tyneside club and the centre-back’s camp have already held talks for the potential transfer. That was even going against the agent’s comments, or indicating the talks were more recent.
With claims of Newcastle’s interest emerging in recent weeks, Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić admitted the Bundesliga winners won’t have it easy to secure the player’s long-term future.

It’s said the top clubs in England and Italy are ‘interested’ in signing him as a free agent next summer, without mentioning details of those clubs. For a long time, all signs were leading to an exit at the end of the current season.
However, Bayern are now ‘luring with a contract extension’. There have been ‘first concrete talks’ between Süle’s agent and Salihamidžić, where the salary and the duration of the new deal were discussed.
He earns a gross annual salary of €8m and Julian Nagelsmann’s side are ready to raise it to €10m. At the moment, ‘everything is open’ as it’s ‘currently possible’ for Süle to sign a new deal or leave the club on a free transfer.
Until he signs a new deal, the former Hoffenheim man will continue to be linked to other clubs, like Newcastle. The director’s comments would only come as an encouragement despite TZ stating there has been ‘concrete talks’ for an extension.
