Leeds United’s need to strengthen the left-back position is likelier to become a bigger priority if the Whites fail to find an agreement with Ezgjan Alioski for a new contract.
The Macedonian’s current deal runs down at the end next month and without a renewal, he can heave Elland Road as a free agent.
Faced with the possibility of losing Alioski, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been searching the market for a new left-back.
On April 17th, multiple reports from the Dutch press pointed out Leeds are keen on signing Nicolás Tagliafico.
Last weekend, De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij backed up Leeds wanting the 28-year-old by stressing the Premier League side’s interest is ‘more serious than everyone assumed.’
Leeds have received a double boost in their pursuit of the fullback after he expressed his desire to move to a more competitive league.
“I’m not going to lie to you, I would love to move to a more challenging league,” Tagliafico told Radio Marca.
With Tagliafico, his agent and Overmars publicly talking about a possible transfer, it now remains to be seen whether he will end up at Leeds or join another club in the summer.
