Bayern Munich’s decision to withdraw their renewal offer for David Alaba has alerted top clubs in England and across Europe.
Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, while Manchester City and Manchester United have been recently dragged into the mix.
On December 21st, AS reported both the Manchester clubs have ‘formally’ contacted the Austria international’s agent, Pini Zahavi, to speak about signing his client.
Marca now explain Los Blancos hold Alaba in ‘high esteem’, but their desire not to enter into a bidding war saw them not make an approach for him in the past.
However, the situation will change next summer when, if nothing changes, he will be available on a free transfer.
Marca further explain the La Liga winners are edging ‘closer and closer’ to acquiring Alaba’s services.
Another snippet from the same newspaper explains the player, who can operate as a centre-back, left-back or midfielder, is viewed as a ‘strategic signing’ for any club.
Manchester City are still in the race for him as Pep Guardiola knows Alaba ‘well’ since he managed him at Bayern.
Despite this, Real Madrid, who don’t do ‘crazy things’, but they have an ‘advantage’ as ‘the accounts are balanced with the Viennese defender’.
This would suggest the Spanish giants can afford Alaba’s demands, without doing ‘crazy things’.
