This week’s edition of SportBild has a long report on how David Alaba’s ‘salary has exploded’ during the period since he joined Bayern Munich from Austria Wien in 2008.

The magazine details interesting points, including how the Bundesliga winners convinced the defender to snub Manchester United more than a decade ago, and also about the clubs who are interested in signing him in 2021.

It’s claimed the Austria international first received a ‘sponsorship contract’ from the Bavarian club in 2008.

When discussing his first offer, SportBild explain Bayern spotted the versatile player at a youth tournament in Manchester. The report adds ‘Alaba dreamed of Manchester United’, suggesting it was then his wish to join the Red Devils.

Although there’s no mention if the Premier League side were keen on signing him when he was 16, the outlet adds former Bayern academy manager Werner Kern convinced his family joining the German side was the best option for Alaba.

At the end of the report, it’s stated the treble winners have withdrawn their last renewal offer, and his ‘file is closed’ at the Allianz Arena.

Alaba’s agent Pini Zahavi is handling interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

According to SportBild, both Manchester United and Manchester City are ‘hoping they can still get into the poker’ to sign the Bayern star.
