Nottingham Forest are ‘very close’ to signing Benfica defender David Tavares, according to claims from Portugal today.
Newspaper Record writes that the Championship side are ‘the most likely destination’ for the 21-year-old this summer.
It isn’t said how much Nottingham Forest are paying for the transfer, even though the outlet sounds pretty confident about the move happening.
They say he’s joining one of the clubs who fought for promotion to the Premier League this season, and will continue having the same objective next year.
David Tavares was used by Benfica’s first team squad only twice last season, and manager Jorge Jesus, who took charge of the club this summer, isn’t counting on him.
Record highlights the fact that Tavares could meet some other Portuguese players at Nottingham Forest, such as João Carvalho, Yuri Ribeiro, Alfa Semedo, Tiago Silva and Tobias Figueiredo. The first three of those all used to play for Benfica.
David Tavares has a contract with Benfica until 2024, and is protected by a release clause of €66m.
