Earlier on Thursday, we covered a story from Romania claiming Sheffield United had made a €16m offer for Steaua Bucharest’s Florinel Coman.
GSP reported it, explaining the 21-year-old was one of Gigi Becali’s (the owner) favourites, and that should the bid be accepted, it would lead to a summer transfer.
However, it seems it might take a little bit more to convince the 61-year-old to let his starlet go, as, contacted by the same outlet, he made it very clear where matters stood and that he would not be saying yes to Sheffield United’s proposal.
He said: “At the moment, Florinel Coman is leaving for €20m! I accept no less. I’m not negotiating the amount. I told everyone who asked about Florinel Coman. I want €20m”.
So, there you have it.
If Chris Wilder wants to have the three time capped Romania international in his squad, he’ll have to convince the Sheffield United board to up their offer by €4m or so.
In the grand scheme of things, and in today’s market, that’s not a lot, so perhaps this is something they might consider in the near future.
Unfortunately, with this now being made public and the price known, they might find themselves with a bit more competition for Coman’s services, who has scored 10 goals and assisted teammates nine times in 19 league appearances so far this season.
