Deadline day in the Premier League is always a busy one, with rumours flying about all over the place and half of them completely rubbish.

It seems Marvin Plattenhardt to Watford was one such falsehood. The German defender was the subject of a link to the Hornets earlier today, with the Daily Mail reporting he was close to a move.

That was a little surprising as it not only came out of nowhere, but there was no mention of it across the German media.

Kicker have now covered the issue and rubbished the whole thing. They say there were no concrete offers for the defender, nor had they even been in touch with the player.

Plattenhardt is considered first choice at Hertha BSC so they wouldn’t have been keen on a sale anyway, while he also prefers to stay at the German club.

So in summary, there never was a deal, nor was there even a prospect of a deal and there wasn’t even any contact between the relevant parties. Put this firmly in the deadline day nonsense pile.
