Leaving the youth set-up at PSG for Fulham was already something which raised eyebrows, so to then go to Scottish football, when so many big clubs were interested, is seen as a unusual career choice by some in France.

The 20 year old has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, who on Sunday have an article reiterating that Tottenham were very keen on signing Dembele again last summer, having also tried in the previous January transfer window.

When asked if he worried about being forgotten in Scottish football, Dembele told L’Equipe: “The clubs which followed me this summer will continue to do so. The stats, they talk wherever you are.”

Dembele is happy to play in the Champions League and denied he’s in any hurry to leave Celtic, or seeing the club as a quick ‘stepping stone’: “I know where I am today. I know I have not yet arrived at the highest level and it is a club that will make me grow.”

The youngster explained that Brendan Rodgers played a big part in his decision to move to Celtic: “He told me much about Luis Suarez and Sturridge that he had had in Liverpool. He knows how we do grow a striker. Today, we still talk a lot.

“I do individual finishing sessions with him. Hee told me in that position in the box, Suarez did it in such a position, he did this, that, not to do the same, I want to have my own style, but it can help me.”
