Thursday’s edition of L’Equipe had a big transfer special, going through the possible ins and outs of Ligue 1 sides.
When it came to Lille, Nicolas Pepe was the star of the show, with serious Liverpool interest highlighted.
As part of the same article, the French newspaper stated: ‘There are indeed several left-siders on the market today, but at prices more expensive than Pepe. A game of musical chairs is being prepared, especially between Gareth Bale (Real Madrid), who keeps some odds in England, Paulo Dybala, who will leave Juventus, Sadio Mane (Liverpool), who interests Bayern Munich, etc.’
That claim obviously got a little coverage, and it’s no surprise that Germany’s SportBild have picked it up.
They say the proposed transfer is ‘very unlikely’.
Bayern Munich were interested when Sane was at RB Salzburg, but they decided not to make a move. Whilst at Southampton, the Bundesliga club’s scouting department recommended him again, but once more Bayern didn’t move.
The cost of a transfer for the 27 year old is seen as prohibitive. SportBild say his ‘market value’ is €85m, but that’s likely from Transfermarkt so not close to a realistic fee.
Maybe they should have listened more to their scouts.
