Sent out on loan to RC Lens to get some first-team football under his belt, Manchester City’s Thierry Ambrose has 24 league appearances to his name this season.
Starting 15 of those, the young forward has been used as a rotation option by the Ligue 2 side, to decent effect, scoring four goals and picking up three assists from the left wing.
Loaned without an option, the 22-year-old is expected to return to the Etihad at the end of the current campaign, where a decision will need to be made about his future as soon as possible.
With a contract running out in June 2020, Ambrose’s future will likely go one of two ways: he’ll get a new deal in Manchester or will be sold somewhere where he can play regularly.
Speaking at a press conference over the weekend, the City loanee was asked about his career plans going forward.
“I don’t necessarily have to turn the page on Manchester City, because we know things go quickly in football. I can very well go back there and have a good preseason. After, things move quickly, but I’m first and foremost focused on what I’m doing with Lens and promotion. We’ll talk about City later!”
Yet to make a professional appearance for the Premier League side despite being at the club since 2013, this summer might be his last chance to impress Pep Guardiola.
We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for Ambrose, but maybe he’ll have done enough to convince RC Lens to give him another chance if Manchester City do decide enough is enough.
