In need of attacking reinforcements, Cardiff spent a large chunk of transfer deadline day chasing a striker, and one of their targets, according to Le Soir in Belgium, was Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen.
Currently loaned at Charleroi, who can make the deal permanent at any time for €3.5m, the Nigerian striker has attracted a lot of interest from around Europe with his performances.
The 20-year-old has scored 10 goals in 20 appearances this season, and Cardiff saw a potential opportunity to try and get a deal done, as did Milan.
The Serie A side went as far as offering €12m for the youngster’s services, but Charleroi decided €15m is what they wanted, and they stood firm.
As for Cardiff, Le Soir explain the Bluebirds were prepared to put an eight figure sum for the forward, which was seemingly never made official.
The interest was there, but perhaps they felt €15m was a bit much for a relatively unproven forward midway through the season.
Next summer could be a different story, however. We’ll have to wait and see.
