There’s been a lot of finger pointing over the past 24 hours between Bordeaux and Fulham regarding the failed transfer of Youssouf Sabaly.
The full-back was wanted by the Cottagers, looking around on deadline day for a new defender, and despite an offer being made, the deal never materialised.
Depending on who you believe, each club has a reason to believe it’s the other’s fault for the transfer collapsing.
According to Sky Sports News, Bordeaux failed to get back to Fulham for four hours despite Claudio Ranieri’s side trying incessantly to get in touch with their French counterparts.
He said, relayed by RMC: “I’m astonished that a club dared contact a player without talking to the club first. We received an offer at 8.03pm. There was a clause in his contract that would have allowed us to do a transfer, but Fulham behaved badly.
“Sabaly expressed a desire to go, but we’re counting on him for the second half of the season.”
Regardless of whose fault it is, the result is the same: the full-back remains at Bordeaux and Fulham didn’t get the defender they wanted.
