Everton have been linked with a move for Wilmar Barrios by countless South American media outlets over the past few days, with some of the claims presented as serious.
It’s not the first time the Merseyside club are said to have been interested in the midfielder, with claims popping up during the summer as well. The Boca Juniors player is long said to have been of interest to European clubs, with Tottenham the side linked the most.
El Dia, an Argentine newspaper who were very reliable on Juan Foyth’s move to Spurs, reported the interest on Monday, and said it was coming from sources at the Boca end.
That made it sound like the Argentine club are keen on a sale, something which they’ve denied, publicly at least.
Gol Caracol say Everton are the ‘latest’ club chasing the player and they quote Boca president Daniel Angelici, who was speaking to Argentine radio, as saying: “No offer has come for Barrios, he has a clause of €23m and is non-transferable, if a club puts the money in, they will have to talk to the player, but if he wants to go there’s nothing we can do.”
So that’s clear then, €23m, please the player financially, and it’s a deal. El Dia said a move to Europe is a ‘dream’ for Barrios, so he’s not going to put up much of a fight.
