Back on Saturday, Mexican outlet Televisa reported that Manchester United have been keeping an eye on Roberto ‘Piojo’ Alvarado, from Cruz Azul.
According to their report, club officials have watched the player in Mexico’s friendly Uruguay on that same day. That was his debut for the national team.
Televisa is one of the biggest media companies in Latin America, so the news obviously made a big noise. That’s why local outlets went after Alvarado to ask about the situation.
“With me there is no direct contact, it was on social media that I saw all that,” said Alvarado (via Record).
“Right now I’m at Cruz Azul and I hope to continue doing things well so that other doors will open in the future.”
Record writes that Alvarado already had trials at Manchester United and Leicester City, so it’s possible the midfielder is well known by the Red Devils already.
But the claim sounds strange, because when we covered a story about him last month, outlet Esto said he had trials at Manchester City and Leicester City.
Some years ago, Latin Americans used to call Man United just ‘Manchester’, mostly because City used to be out of the relevant scenario. Now with both clubs fighting for the same titles, sometimes people still stay ‘Manchester’ and things get a little bit confusing.
Maybe that’s what happened when the outlets heard about these trials.
