Former IFK Göteborg technical director Ola Larsson was in the running to take charge at Plymouth Argyle, before they suddenly pulled out of the deal.

That’s according Expressen, who report that the 47-year-old had been in the running to be Plymouth’s new sports director and was one of the final candidates for the job.

They explain that Larsson has had something of a quiet period after leaving IFK Göteborg at the end of 2023.

He’s been a part of several recruitment processes and has had a couple of jobs in the pipeline but has not managed to secure any of them.

Plymouth was one such instance. He was one of the final candidates for the job as sports director at the Championship club.

Things were progressing for him to be appointed, with the 47-year-old travelling to England and visiting the club, where he was involved in the final phase of the recruitment process. They then were for a different candidate.

However, this candidate was not appointed either and Plymouth have not had anyone in the position since.

Manager Miron Muslic has even expressed his concern at this publicly, questioning why the club still don’t have a sports director or recruitment manager when asked about his own future.

Plymouth have since hired David Fox as Head of Football Operations and Tom Randel as Head of Recruitment, but the sporting director role remains unfilled, despite Larsson travelling and being in the final phases of the process.
