Earlier this week, Foot Mercato reported RC Lens and RC Strasbourg are keen on signing Southampton’s Sékou Mara. It was also stated the Saints are willing to open the exit door this summer.
Strasbourg have taken the lead in the chase for the 20-year-old, according to Le Parisien journalist Marc Mechenoua.
He claims the Ligue 1 side are in ‘advanced discussions’ with Southampton and will hold talks with the striker in the ‘next few hours’. Mecenoua adds Lens and Stade Brestois are also in the picture.
L’Equipe report that Strasbourg’s priority is to strengthen their attack, and the goalkeeper position this summer, and Mara is the main target for the former. The French club are in ‘advanced discussions’ with Russell Martin’s side.
The talks revolve around a fee between €10m and €12m, and the two clubs have ‘reached the stage of negotiating on the staggered amount’. This means Strasbourg are discussing the payment method with Southampton.
L’Equipe also state Lens and Stade Brestois have shown interest in signing the Frenchman, but on a loan deal. This has allowed Strasbourg to take the lead in the race to sign Mara.
