Earlier this week, we covered the reaction from the French media to the performance Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares put in against Paris Saint-Germain.
It wasn’t entirely his fault, as he was played out of position by Igor Tudor, but it didn’t get much better for him when he returned to his natural left-hand side.
La Provence gave him a 2.7/10 for his display, and just when you think it couldn’t get much worse for the Arsenal man, it did.
Starting on the bench in the cup against Annecy, the Portuguese came on to try and see off the game in the 56th minute, only for him to end up being, alongside Leonardo Balerdi, one of the reasons why Marseille were knocked out by the minnows.
That’s because the Arsenal defender and the centre-back were the two players from the Ligue 1 side to miss their penalties.
Because of that, and his performance beforehand, Tavares was given a 2/10 by La Provence, which is an average of three different journalists, two present at the stadium and the other in front of his television.
The result is one seen by the newspaper as a ‘disgrace’, and the Arsenal man is labeled one of the ‘weak links’ of the team over the past few weeks.
In essence, things need to change for Tavares, and quickly.
