André Onana was the centre of media attention before Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Lyon on Thursday.

Nemanja Matić stated Onana was one of the worst goalkeepers in the Red Devils’ history, after the latter said that Manchester United are way better than Lyon.

The stopper wasn’t able to back himself on the pitch as his errors led to Manchester United conceding two goals against Lyon.

Thiago Almada capitalised on the 29-year-old’s mistake in the 25th minute before Leny Yoro scored the equaliser just before the break.

Substitute Joshua Zirkzee scored Manchester United’s second in the 88th minute and it was assisted by Bruno Fernandes. Onana’s second error helped Rayan Cherki to score the late equaliser for Lyon.

French newspaper L’Equipe have given the Cameroon international goalkeeper a rating of 3/10. He wasn’t the lowest rated player, a honour which was given to Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund, who got 2/10.

Fernandes got 8/10, which was highest among both teams, followed by 7/10 to Lyon’s Nicolás Tagliafico. Yoro got 6/10 while 5/10 was handed out to Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui, Diogo Dalot and Casemiro.

Alejandro Garnacho, Manuel Ugarte and Partick Dorgu all got 4/10 and Ruben Amorim was given 5/10.

The return leg will take place at Old Trafford next Thursday.
