Manchester United have failed to qualify for the Champions League next season and are currently sixth in the table, trailing fourth placed Aston Villa by 13 points with four games left to play.
The Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League group stage in December and have only the FA Cup to fight for this season.
There’s been mixed claims over Erik ten Hag’s future at Manchester United in recent weeks. This has resulted in a few reports talking about the possibility of the manager returning to Ajax, if he were to be shown the exit door at Old Trafford.
As of now, the Eredivisie side haven’t contacted the 54-year-old, and this was revealed by Ten Hag himself during an interview with Viaplay, relayed Voetbal Zone.
At the same time, the manager hasn’t ruled out a move back to Amsterdam in the future.
“Why not? I had a very good period at Ajax and was able to work there in a very pleasant way. It is a fascinating club, with many possibilities,” Ten Hag explained.
Voetbal Zone state that for Ten Hag, the news of him still being in charge at Manchester United next season ‘came as no surprise’.
His immediate and short-term focus is on Manchester United, and he’s in regular contact with the Red Devils’ new leadership to plan for next season.
“I have never said anything else. Nor has anything else ever been stated. There has been a change in leadership and management of the club, also in the structure. But again, I work very well with these people. You can be assured that we talk to each other on a daily basis about next season,” he added.
