The father of Everton defender Yerry Mina, Jose Eulises Mina, has revealed the extent to which the player’s foundation is helping locals in his native Colombia during the Coronavirus outbreak.
At the beginning of the month, we brought you a report on how the Everton man had instructed his family, via his foundation, to try and help locals in the Guachené region.
According to a report, the foundation were sending out ‘essential’ parcels of food and cleaning supplies to the hardest-hit families in an attempt to help stop the spread of the virus.
His father has now revealed how extensive their efforts have been, and how Yerry has responded to the work they’re doing.
“We as a family have believed that the people here in Guachené are a vulnerable population and now more. We have to be able to offer the people a hand in some way,” he told Gol Caracol.
“A total of more than 500 deliveries have been sent out, and we also had the support in recent days of a company that makes cleaning implements.
“They donated it to the foundation so that we could reach the community in Guachené.
“We have been in several sectors of the municipality, and we also do it through the foundation and companies that are in the territory.
“Yerry always sends a message, a video to the people of his land, for him, it is very gratifying, and he feels very grateful and says that together we can do great things.”
At the moment, Mina currently finds himself in isolation, with Everton and the rest of the Premier League on hold as the UK battles the spread of the virus.
The situation is likely to be a tough one for the defender, who has had to watch from afar as his own country struggles with COVID-19.
His family, though, are only concerned about him, with his father admitting they have ‘doubts’ about his well-being in England.
“The situation is quite complicated because there are two different positions,” he added.
“A large part of his family is here in Colombia. His mother, his brother, almost all of them. He feels the same way, although it’s good that he’s with his wife.
“And that’s how we are, we miss him, and we have doubts about how he is, over there in England.
