Manchester City take on Chelsea in the Champions League final this evening and the clash will be Sergio Agüero’s last match for the Citizens.
With a contract expiring on June 30th, Barcelona remain favourites to sign the striker on a free transfer.
Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo explains ‘everything is agreed’ between the La Liga side and the 32-year-old.
The Argentina international was initially expected to arrive in the Spanish city on Monday to undergo medical tests. However, the announcement of his signing is ‘not as imminent as it seemed’.
That’s because the former Atlético Madrid star’s ‘yes’ to Barca is ‘conditional’ to Lionel Messi signing an extension at the Camp Nou. Agüero’s compatriot, like him, also has a month left on his current deal, and Barca’s desire is to tie their star down to a new contract.
‘In principle, nothing changes’, but the Catalan club should be wary of unnamed Premier League sides ‘pushing’ for Agüero, while Juventus remain vigilant. His priority, however, is to continue his career with Messi at Barcelona, but other suitors are ‘watching’.
This last minute delay is obviously causing a little worry at Barcelona.
Despite this, it’s not ruled out for Agüero to undergo his medical and complete his move Barcelona before joining Argentina’s camp for the Copa América. If this happens, Mundo suggest, it would mean that ‘Messi’s continuity would be closer’.
