Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves was one of the first to give a press conference after joining the Portuguese national team.
And although the local journalists wanted to know a lot about the player’s season and his future, it turned out to be one of those boring interviews with generic answers from the player.
Asked about the interest from other clubs in him, and specifically Liverpool, Neves has claimed it is a ‘pride’ to be having such success, but claims to be focused on the national team for now.
“It’s obvious that it’s a pride to be able to take the name of Portugal further, for that is the goal. But it’s not the moment to think about the future, we have a competition to win. We are focused on the next game with Switzerland,” he said (via Zerozero).
“As I said, it’s always great to be able to raise the name of the country abroad and value our football, but at the moment we are focused on the national team because we have a great competition and we want to give our best.”
About being called a ‘Rolls Royce’ by Wolverhampton fans, Neves was questioned if he could bring the same quality to the Portuguese national team.
“Here and at the club, all players try to do their best for the team. It’s no different here. I try to give the best in each training and in each game to help the Seleção. That’s my big goal.”
Portugal are currently in preparation to face Swiss for the Nations League semifinal on the 5th of June.
