Less than a month ago, Adama Traore was taking the front page of Spanish sport newspapers, with the media there falling over themselves to praise the Wolves player.

AS called him ‘The Bomb’, but made clear to say his game isn’t all about muscle. Combined with his technical ability, it makes Traore a ‘terrifying extreme mix’ and they labelled him a ‘steamroller with boots’.

There was talk of whether he’d prefer a future move to Real Madrid or a return to Barcelona, with the Madrid and Catalan media obviously taking very different stances on the situation.

For Spain, it was insisted he could be something of a secret weapon at next summer’s European championship, being fortunate that Euro2020 was delayed by a year.

Now things are very different, with Traore losing prominence at Wolves, and Daniel Podence edging ahead of him. There’s also been a lack of goals and assists, and Sport now suggests he could be out of Spain’s latest squad.

That’s quite some change from what was being reported a few weeks ago, and shows how fortunes can turn so quickly in football.
