With Patrick Cutrone thought to be on the verge of a move to Fiorentina, the Wolves player is all over the Italian media.

The current slant is that negotiations are going reasonably well and La Viola will be signing the striker on loan for the rest of the season. In the summer they’ll have a mandatory purchase option of around €15-17m.

Firenze Viola are excited and have contacted a man who knows the Wolves man much better than most.

Filippo Galli was head of AC Milan’s youth sector when Cutrone was coming through at the club. The pair have remained close since then, and Galli travelled to England at New Year to meet up with his former player.

He attended Wolves’ match against Watford, with Cutrone failing to get off the bench, and was impressed with the 22 year old’s attitude: “One thing struck me about him that evening: that despite not having played, he hadn’t been depressed or darkened. But he carried out the discharge training on the Watford pitch with the same determination as his companions. Of an attacker who was the protagonist of a match. I don’t think it’s such a normal thing and that’s why I wanted to capture that moment by taking a picture with him: I spoke to him and he has a crazy desire to play football.”

Asked why Cutrone has been having difficulties since moving to the Premier League from AC Milan, Galli said: “It is normal for a young man who is facing a league so different from Serie A to have a little hesitation at the beginning. The Premier League is a difficult context and particularly the situation at Wolverhampton. The English club already had important forwards in the squad, many of whom are compatriots of the coach and have always been his men of reference.”

It’s not the first time it’s been suggested Nuno Espirito Santo would appreciate the Italian more if he was Portuguese, although it does seem a little paranoid.

Galli insists Cutrone has ‘fire’ inside him and is very keen on getting minutes, which are likely to come elsewhere.
