At this point, it’s no secret that Matheus Cunha is close to the exit door at Atletico Madrid, with Wolverhampton Wanderers trying for his signing.

The striker’s situation gets an update from Mundo Deportivo, who talk about the departures that are about to happen at the La Liga side in January.

The outlet claims that Wolves ‘opened talks’ to sign Cunha and are actually in the lead for the transfer. It’s said even though other Premier League sides such as Aston Villa and Manchester United have ‘interested in the situation’, it’s really the Molineux club who are the ‘best placed’ to land him.

It’s just been over a year since Atletico Madrid spent €26m to sign the striker from Hertha Berlin, and their intention now is to, at least, recover that money.

Mundo Deportivo add that besides these talks for Cunha, Wolves are also working to seal the signing of Brazilian defender Felipe, who could ‘also enter the operation’.

On Thursday, we covered quotes from manager Julen Lopetegui confirming that there’s interest in the Atletico Madrid duo, claiming they are players to the club’s ‘liking’ and are ‘good options’ for the January window.
