Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir is an ‘old favourite’ at Atlético Madrid, but they could face competition from Sevilla and Barcelona for his signature.
That’s according to MARCA, who say all three clubs are keeping an eye on the striker ahead of the summer transfer window.
Atlético are at the front of the queue for his signature, with Mir’s 12 goals for Huesca this season having seen those in charge of the club bring his name back to the table.
He’d been a player they’d been interested in for ‘some time’, but his impressive displays this year have seen him come back to the forefront of their mind.
Diego Simeone’s side are keen to strengthen their squad after realising it is not deep enough to compete on all fronts and are particularly determined to add a new forward to their options.
With Moussa Dembele set to return to Lyon and Alvaro Morata unwanted, Mir fits the profile and only has a year left on his current deal with Wolves.
They ‘want to sell him’ and so for a fee of ‘around €15m’, the 23-year-old could make the move to the Wanda Metropolitano.
That would see Huesca take a percentage of the transfer, how much isn’t made clear, although it’s stated they do not have an option to make his loan from Wolves a permanent switch.
Sevilla and Barcelona, meanwhile, are keeping an eye on the situation, but Jorge Mendes relationship with Joan Laporta ‘could be key’ for the latter.
The feeling, though, is that he ‘would fit perfectly’ with Simeone, putting Atlético at the front of the queue for his signature.
