‘Wolverhampton interested in Giovani dos Santos’ is a headline which can be seen in a few outlets from the Mexican media today.

It doesn’t seem very likely that the Premier League side would buy the 30-year-old at this stage of his career, so why have these stories been spread in the past 24 hours?

Well, it turns out that it started with a FIFA tournament. Giovani dos Santos represented America in a match against Tigres this week, and won 3-2.

Wolves’ Spanish Twitter account, which is used to interacting with Mexican followers, congratulated the player for his great performance, including the eyes emoji in their message.

Wolves have some tenuous links to Club America, especially because they’re the club Raul Jimenez used to play for. But Mexican fans have taken everything the wrong way.

They’ve been sending Wolves lots of messages saying Giovani dos Santos isn’t going anywhere. So much that they’ve caught the local media’s attention, and now the headlines make it look like it’s an actual rumour.
