This was an inevitable Wolves rumour, and we’re a little disappointed not to have predicted it.

For the past two years, there’s been a huge delusion at Benfica, where the club’s board think Raul Jimenez is worth an awful lot of money.

There was a time when president Luis Filipe Vieira thought the striker could be the biggest sale of Portuguese football ever, and since then, the Eagles have been demanding at least €40m for his transfer.

The problem is that Jimenez has only scored 31 goals in his three seasons for Benfica, and unsurprisingly, none of the interested clubs have intended to pay that amount. Especially because the Mexican international has mostly been a bench player in the past couple of seasons.

And with Benfica willing to get rid of him, what could they do? Play the Jorge Mendes card, of course.

Now Portuguese newspaper O Jogo claims that Jimenez is in advanced talks to join Wolves, in a deal managed by the super agent.

Wolves obviously won’t pay that €40m fee, but are still spending a lot of money to sign the striker, according to the claims. The deal would be of a one-year loan spell, for which the West Midlands club spend €5m, and pay his full wages, which are over €1m per season.

The outlet makes it sound like the deal is very close to happening, with Jorge Mendes doing one of his magic tricks once again.
