Wolverhampton Wanderers are closer to an agreement with Sporting for the transfer of Rui Patrício, according to reports from Portugal today.
Even though the Premier League side can sign the player on a free, they’re trying to find a deal to avoid a bad relationship, or even legal action, with the Lions.
There are two outlets reporting the negotiations today. One of them is Record, who recalls that Wolves had already promised to resume the negotiations in case Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho stepped down.
The outlet claims that the talks are currently being handled by Jorge Mendes and the Sporting lawyer Juan de Dios Cresp Perez, with ‘some steps’ being made in the past few days.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias claims that Sporting are ‘analysing the situation very carefully’. The club are said to be aiming for the amount of €18m, which had already been agreed with Wolves before the deal collapsed due to late demands from Bruno de Carvalho.
The Portuguese press doesn’t seem to know how far Wolves will go in these negotiations, although it’s clear they’re already acting with goodwill just by being prepared to pay something to Sporting.
