Coming down with a fever overnight, Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario has been monitored on Thursday by the Italy national team, with another goalkeeper promoted as a precaution.

How he recovers will be important to Luciano Spalletti, who might have wanted to use him this international break, such has his importance become to both club and country.

Tottenham seem content that they have found the man to replace Hugo Lloris long-term, as the Italian has continued his good form from his time at Empoli, where he played alongside Tommaso Baldanzi, who had nothing but great things to stay to TuttoMercatoWeb about the goalkeeper.

Asked about both Vicario and Kristjan Asllani, who left the Serie A side for Spurs and Inter Milan respectively, he said: “They have made two very important journeys and I am very happy and proud of them. They are two great friends of mine, two strong and ambitious boys who work hard. For the moment, they have all deserved this.”

Baldanzi was also asked if he had learned anything from those two players, who have managed to get great moves elsewhere.

Speaking about the Tottenham star, he said: “Vicario, like Caputo and Luperto, helped me a lot from a mental and work perspective. Guglielmo always worked, without a break. This is fundamental.”

Since his arrival at the London club, the 27-year-old has made 12 appearances in the Premier League, conceded 15 goals and kept four clean sheets.
