Big European clubs are used to having many youngsters taking trials at their academy. Long before getting involved in the big transfers, teenagers are often tested abroad to prove they can sign their first professional contract.
This is the case of Swedish winger Stefano Vecchia. Even though he’d only played in his own country until moving to Norway this year, he had a few experiences training with European giants such as Inter Milan and Manchester United in the past.
The 26-year-old now told his story to VG TV, and revealed that his short spell with the Red Devils wasn’t very pleasant. He claims he was very well-received at Inter Milan, and then had a different experience with the youngsters from the Premier League side.
“I remember that when I was at Inter, everyone was very welcoming. I got to meet all the first team players, the coach and so on. They were very warm,” Vecchia told VG TV (via Fotbollskanalen).
The player claims he had difficulty showing his potential during the Manchester United trial.
“They didn’t want to give me the ball. So I had to pick it up myself from the players and dribble and show what I could. There are a few different cultures. I noticed that British culture was colder.
“It was a bit: He should not come and think that he is something.”
Vecchia ended up starting his professional career at Brommapojkarna, moving to Sirius in 2017. He left Sweden in January this year, signing for Norwegian side Rosenborg on a three-year deal.
