Even though Liverpool are still to announce the arrival of Arne Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp, the Dutch manager doesn’t hide he’s going to Anfield.

The coach today spoke to the local media at Feyenoord’s press conference, and multiple questions were about his future.

Slot started by admitting he won’t be at the Eredivisie side for much longer but isn’t distracted right now by looking back at everything or ahead at his future, and the quotes come from 1908.

“I’m not really someone who looks very far ahead, who would already think: ‘In a week and a half from now, it could also just be that I won’t be driving this way anymore.’ But the moment you stand in De Kuip last Sunday and the match goes the way it did, you do have that moment of realisation. That feeling might increase a bit next week, because it could just be the last week then.”

Now since there have been journalists going to his hometown to tell his story, Slot ended up opening up about the switch to Liverpool.

“Again, I don’t make that as big a deal as you might. Yes, there will be one report, one person going to Bergentheim and speaking to a number of people there.

“To be honest, even now, just like the switch from AZ to Feyenoord, I’m just trying to stick to what I really like: the training complex. It involves a number of things. When I was working at AZ, I was recognised by the real football fan. Now that I am working at Feyenoord, I am recognised by almost every Dutchman, because my head is also on TV sometimes and it is also about me. It is not out of the question that this will soon happen internationally as well. Fortunately, there is a nice build-up in that. For those around me, none of them are waiting for that, but I think it was also a snapshot. I don’t suspect they are going to Bergentheim every week to film a boardroom.”

The manager even said that Liverpool’s announcement should be made soon, basically confirming the switch.

“I say almost every time: it will be a matter of days. I expect the same now. Things like this take a bit more than going to the shop with a shopping list and ticking off the groceries. These are things that have to be timed properly and everything has to be worked out. There are sometimes some things attached to that as well. So that combination of factors means it hasn’t been communicated yet. But don’t worry, that will undoubtedly happen.”

Feyenoord are set to end the Eredivisie season as runner-ups, and now have matches against NEC and Excelsior to play before the end of the season. They recently won the KNVB Cup, and that’s the positive manager Slot will keep from his final year there.

Liverpool are certainly going through an emotional time, bidding farewell to Jurgen Klopp in the coming weeks, so it feels natural that they won’t make a big deal of Slot’s arrival so soon.
