According to claims in the Italian media, Carpi are trying to push through the transfer of Jerry Mbakogu to Leeds United.
The Nigerian has been linked with a move to Leeds United in recent months and it had been expected he would join the Championship side at the end of June.
Carpi officials have spoken about the move more than once, but it’s possible there’s worry over a change of plans with Marcelo Bielsa now in charge at Elland Road.
Gazzetta di Modena have reported, via TMW, that Carpi are keen to close a deal with Leeds United so that they can redeem Federico Melchiorri from Cagliari. The Serie B side loaned the forward during the second half of last season, and now want him permanently.
It’s claimed Carpi are pushing for ‘White Smoke’ with regards to Mbakogu joining Leeds United, as in reference to the appointment of a new Pope. The term ‘white smoke’ is often used to signify the completion of a transfer in Italy, and a few days ago Leeds United used a video of the same when announcing Bielsa.
Last week we covered comments made by Carpi president Stefano Bonacini, who said the forward should be joining Leeds United on June 30th.
