West Ham’s latest signing Guido Rodríguez has revealed he was contacted by Edson Álvarez ahead of the move, to receive a lowdown on his potential new club.
Rodríguez joined West Ham earlier this week, signing on a free transfer after his deal with Real Betis expired in the summer, and has been speaking to AS Mexico about the move.
He is the latest in a growing list of new arrival at West Ham this summer, with the Hammers not hesitating to spend their money to strengthen the squad for Julen Lopetegui.
The move for the Argentine was done with rapid pace as West Ham moved quickly to wrap him p and ensure they were not beaten to his signature by any other interested parties.
He had previously spent three years with the Mexican side after moving to the country from Argentina, where he had initially broken through at River Plate.
His time at América saw him playing alongside Álvarez, who he says didn’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss the move when it first emerged in the media.
“We spoke a little when the news came out, he sent me a message to ask if it was true,” he said.
“It had all happened very fast, and I told him that it was possible. I was happy to be able to be in a squad with him again.
“We got on well in América, so hopefully that will be the same here. He told me about the club’s project, the squad that’s being assembled. I think that we’ll get on well.”
