West Ham United failed in their efforts to sign Athletic Club Bilbao’s Unai Núñez in January.
He has a release clause of €30m and the Basque club have long been working to tie down the centre-back to a new deal.
Just days after the winter market, the Hammers were dragged into the 23-year-old’s renewal stand-off.
On March 16th, reports coming out of Spain pushed forward interest from David Moyes’ side in Núñez. Bilbao sporting director Rafa Alkorta revealed his side have already made three offers for renewal.
A few weeks ago, Núñez was clear that he wants to leave the La Liga side in the summer. This has been reported in today’s edition of AS and it also adds the player has taken a lot of pleasure after featuring regularly for Bilbao in 2020.
Online, AS claims the defender is ‘probed’ by West Ham and AC Milan.
While interacting with Bilbao fans on social media, Núñez has reiterated his desire to win silverware with his current employer. Athletic face Real Sociedad in this season’s Copa del Rey final.
It isn’t clear if Núñez will leave Bilbao after this season, but AS’ report indicates West Ham remain interested, after failing to land him in January.
