West Ham United need to move quickly if they want to sign Oumar Solet from Red Bull Salzburg, as VfB Stuttgart are edging closer to a deal for him.

That’s according to Stuttgarter Nachrichten, who say the German side have already held ‘intensive contact’ with the player about a move.

The newspaper reports that talks between Stuttgart and the Frenchman have proven to be ‘extremely positive’ and both sides are almost in agreement over a move.

Salzburg are willing to let Solet move to Stuttgart too, with a relatively affordable deal of €8-10m on the table. The only negative is the player’s injury record, which may be holding Stuttgart back from properly making a move as they were stung hard by injuries last season.

Thus, the window remains open for West Ham, who have been credited with interest in the defender for weeks, to try and insert themselves too.

They were said to be interested in the defender midway through last month and had even spoken to him.

Given Julen Lopetegui already has four central defenders in his squad, their focus seems to have been on strengthening other areas first, it appears Stuttgart have progressed on Solet and got close to him.

West Ham may want to now move quickly if they don’t want to miss out entirely on a deal that appears there to be done.
